Commuters Guide to a Happy Ride

To guarantee a great bike to work week make sure you are fully prepared and comfortable.

Always Be Comfortable

A vital piece of advice is to always make sure your ride is comfortable. Whether it be a good saddle or a high quality chamois, your ride will improve significantly and you will want to hop on that bike more and more.

For those afraid to take the plunge into the dark side of wearing a seemingly uncomfortable, weird, “thing” in your shorts, (aka a chamois), I urge you to conquer your fear and try it. You will be extremely thankful, and soon wonder what you ever did before you had these amazing shorts. The chamoises come in different thickness and quality. For a longer commute they are a life (bum) saver. A saddle is as equally important. The Riders staff can educate you about the different shorts, and saddles. As well, we have a saddle fit program to assure you get the right size for a better ride.

Always Be Prepared

Have you ever been pedaling along enjoying the glorious sunshine only to feel an awkward bump? Slowly but surely you realize something does not feel right. You look behind hoping in vain that all is well. Lo and behold your rear tire is deflating right before your eyes. Suddenly it occurs to you there is no bike shop within walking distance and you have nothing to fix it yourself. If only you had remembered to buy the, oh so important, pump, tire levers and extra tube.

One of the best tips for cyclers is to follow the clichéd line; “Always be prepared”. This applies not only in dress but in proper tools as well. A pump, tire levers and either a patch kit or extra tube is crucial for a smooth commute.
